This small town in the province of Alicante has 24,000 inhabitants and is located in the Marina Alta region, between the towns of Benidorm and Calpe. The beautiful blue and white tiled church dome peeking out from the gleaming white houses of Altea's old town has become an icon of the Costa Blanca.
Above the town lies the beautiful old town, a maze of whitewashed houses adorned with plants and flowers, whose pink roofs rise high above, including its two famous and beautiful blue domes. Probably the most famous image of Altea is the Church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, a beautiful church whose domes are decorated with the typical Levantine blue tiles that can be seen from any point in the town.
A few metres from the Plaza de la Iglesia is the Mirador de los Cronistas, which, of all the viewpoints that this beautiful town has to offer, is the one that offers the most amazing day and night views of Altea. From there you can see Albir, the Sierra Helada and the entire Bay of Altea, and you can even see Benidorm's Peñon de Ifach.
Its 8 km of coastline is dotted with magnificent sandy beaches and crystal clear waters with hidden coves between the cliffs of the rugged Sierra de Bernia, such as Playa de Ronda and Playa Cap Blanc in the town centre, or L'Olla or Cap Negret further north or the beautiful beaches of Albir and Mascarat.
The climate is excellent with average temperatures of 22 degrees, with short, mild winters and hot summers that attract thousands of visitors in both summer and winter.
